BEHIND THE MUSIC.... Part One.....
the Bitch of the Band Auditions
ok... so while having dinner the other nite a "behind the music on vh1" comment was made about Spaghetti Art and our DRAMA laden history.... and since we always laugh about it.... i thought... this might be FUN.... (and therapeutic since i've got some issues)
So.... there's a lil history.... a lil (LOTTA) drama.... a few f'cked up musicians (the gay samurai, the angry leprechaun & the ex convict who wanted to kill johnny fix it & cha cha chia ed who will ALL make appearance in this mini-series) and we've got the makings of an interesting lil tale....
so i think it was APRIL in 2000 and Spaghetti Art was playing at Jugs & Strokers and I was brought there by a friend... JackAss, who knew the bass player (Bob) and Boo also came out. Jugs had about 10 people in the bar... but the band was GOOD and LOUD and after a few shots of Blackhaus and some Amstels... after meeting the guys in the band.... Matt asked me if i knew the song "oughtta know" by alanis morrisette... yeah sure that's a good song... and i thought... oh a guys singing that... that should be interesting...
that wasnt the case... in the second set (after another shot cause jackass had planned this whole thang) Matt announced to the whole bar (all ten of em) that they've gotta chick coming up to audition & give her a big hand... AND THAT CHICK WAS ME... yeah HI
so ok... thank you jackass... but up i go (false courage in the name of blackhaus right there w/me) and i started the first part of the song....
second verse comes around
i'm blank
i got NOTHING
i look over at Johnny (who i only met MOMENTS before) w/what i'm sure was pure FEAR in my eyes... and he walks past me AND TELLS ME THE WORDS "you seem very well things look peaceful" and i was like.... OHHHH YEAH... and managed to finish the song (could you just LOVE him any more for savin my day like that?)
everyone clapped
someone (besides jackass) bought me a beer... actually i gotta couple of beers i think.
a lot of people (about 5 outta the 10 & all the bartenders) i didnt know came up to me and told me how good i did.
boo said "i'm sooo proud to be your friend you sounded so good i didnt know you could DO that" (she was a lil drunk.... and gets all "i love you man" when she's loaded) jackass said he knew i'd kick ass
and that was that.... they asked me to come to the studio on Wednesday....
so i went to the studio... w/its dna covered sofa and sang two songs. The Alanis Morrisette & Melissa Etheridge, Like I Do.
from what i learned after the fact.... the vote became a bit of an issue. Johnny & Bob voted for me. while Matt was trying to work his choice and he expected Damon to second his vote.... but Damon voted w/Johnny & Bob... Matt let me know i wasnt his choice, Johnny let me know that i was everyone else's...... but's that's for another episode....
